PORTSMOUTH, VA, August 15, 2016 | Christian News Service | – Mercy Chefs, a Virginia based non-profit, disaster relief organization has deployed their team of professional chefs to feed thousands in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the surrounding areas. This is Mercy Chefs’ ninth disaster deployment in 2016, and their third to Louisiana.
Sunday, the relief group left from their Dallas base with two of their state of the art mobile kitchens and a refrigerated trailer in tow, headed for the disaster zone. The team arrived on site late in the evening yesterday. Today, their chefs will begin serving 7,500 restaurant quality meals daily for victims, first responders and volunteers.
Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency, and is warning residents and guests that though the rain has ceased, the rivers and flood waters are still on the rise. An estimated 7,000 residents have already been rescued from their homes, 5,000 are in shelters, and three have lost their lives in this ongoing disaster. The need for relief is urgent and widespread.
Mercy Chefs’ mobile kitchen is stationed at Bethany Church located at: 11107 Honore Lane
Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Those residents and first responders who are able to reach the site are invited to pick up lunch and dinner here. Mercy Chefs’ mobile food truck will also be making deliveries to the areas of Denham Springs, Amite and Robert. Meal times will be posted on the organization’s Facebook page.
