The Polish-born Israeli statesman was the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. A Noble Peace Prize Winner, Peres served twice as Israel's Prime Minister. He's considered one of Israel's founding fathers as he fought for the nation's independence while also sought peace with Palestinians.
Mourners quickly took to social media to express their sympathies.
Officials say family members were summoned to his hospital bedside earlier in the day as his health increasingly deteriorated.
