Professional Chefs deploy to tornado stricken Virginia

Mercy Chefs to feed first responders in Appomattox, VA and LaPlace, LA to Provide Emergency Relief

PORTSMOUTH, Vir., February 25, 2016 | Christian News Service | – Mercy Chefs is immediately deploying to Appomattox, VA and LaPlace, LA in response to the deadly string of tornadoes that swept across the southern and east coast states Wednesday. 

Within the county of Appomattox, one-hundred homes were damaged and twenty destroyed. Currently over 4,000 residents and businesses are without power and water. Mercy Chefs is working in coordination with Virginia VOAD to bring relief to the victims of this tragic storm. Their Virginia based team will arrive in Appomattox tonight and will begin meal service with breakfast tomorrow. The team expects to serve five-hundred daily. Their mobile kitchen, refrigerated trailer and command center will be stationed at Evergreen Baptist Church. 

At the request of the Louisiana Governor's Office of Emergency Management, Mercy Chefs’ Texas based team will arrive and begin meal service in LaPlace Friday. Over two-hundred homes in the area were damaged and over 9,200 are without electricity. While power will be restored for many in the area tonight, it has been confirmed that an independent living facility in LaPlace will remain without electricity until Monday. In response, Mercy Chefs’ team of professional volunteer chefs will provide hot meal service for the facility residents, volunteer clean up crews and first responders throughout the weekend.
